CELTA in Florence Italy: Things to see

Florence truly is one of the most beautiful, iconic cities in the world and we would recommend all students take a little time either before or after their CELTA course to truly appreciate this magnificent location.

We are situated in the heart of the picture-perfect Tuscany region, known for its idyllic landscape, awe inspiring architecture and sumptuous wines. And in this region of majestic splendour, Florence is the jewel in the crown.

Florence boasts more art than many entire countries and has an abundance of exquisite buildings. So much so that the entire city centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

For the art or art history lover, there is no better place to be. As one of the true homes of the Renaissance, the city offers unrivalled art and architecture. Be sure to visit Michelangelo’s ‘David’ at Galleria dell’ Accademia di Firenze as well as Botticelli’s ‘The Birth of Venus’ and Da Vinci’s ‘Annunciation’ at the Uffizi Gallery. Wander through history in the maze of streets that make up the city centre, taking in the Duomo cathedral, the iconic Ponte Vecchio bridge and the many local outdoor markets. When your feet get tired, you can stop off for a glass of locally produced Chianti wine, a coffee at one of the many stylish cafes or indulge in the wonderful Florentine cuisine.

If you want to escape the city centre, head to Florence’s outskirts where you will find more UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the shape of the Medici Villas, home of the world-famous Medici dynasty.

And throughout the city you will get to meet one of the real treasures of the city. The friendly, warm and helpful Florence locals.

You can find out more about Florence through their detailed Tourist Centre.
